Central to this collection is the commitment to using materials and processes that prioritize the planet's well-being. The sunglasses feature frames made from M49 bio-acetate, an innovative material derived from renewable resources like wood pulp and cotton fibers, offering an alternative to traditional plastics. The lenses are crafted from recyclable polycarbonate, ensuring protection from the sun's rays while also being repurposable.
The packaging process emphasizes environmental mindfulness from start to finish, ensuring that every aspect of the product lifecycle is considered. The send-back case is made from FSC-certified paper and includes a cleaning cloth made from recycled PET. The send-back shipping label is pre-paid and works from anywhere on Earth. Just drop it in a postbox like you post a normal postcard and it will return to Yuma Labs for disassembly and recycling.

Choosing materials and processes that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and are repurposable makes a significant difference in the fashion industry's environmental footprint. The use of bio-acetate for the frames lowers emissions by up to a third compared to traditional materials, establishing a new standard for environmentally considerate production. The commitment to circularity ensures that the sunglasses can be transformed at the end of their lifecycle, contributing to a circular economy that values resources and minimizes waste.
Craftsmanship and quality
Produced in a renowned eyewear factory in Northern Italy, each pair of sunglasses exemplifies unmatched craftsmanship and quality. This commitment extends beyond the product to its production process, with the factory utilizing 100% renewable energy sources. The final quality control and packaging are conducted in a social workplace in Belgium, ensuring that every step of the process not only meets the highest standards of quality but also contributes positively to the community and the environment.
The recycling initiative
The most sustainable sunglasses are those that you use as long as possible. But if you decide to part ways with your sunglasses, return them to Yuma Labs, and we will recycle them for you. We are setting up a new recycling initiative, called Ever, together with independent opticians to recycle as much optical waste as possible. Once enough waste is collected, the glasses will be disassembled, recycled into new acetate sheets, and used to create new stylish sunglasses made from recycled acetate.
A project by Xandres lab
Xandres has been challenging itself in terms of sustainability for some time, and does so, in part, by collaborating with innovative, like-minded brands to learn from each other and make a bigger impact. The design and production of the sunglasses were done in collaboration with us. With top-notch eyewear made from more sustainable materials designed for endless recycling, we offer a unique perspective on the role of waste in the environment and how that loop can be closed.
